2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV – What You Should Know
A New Electric Mitsubishi Is Coming — Here’s What Burnsville Drivers Should Know

If you’ve been thinking about going electric, Mitsubishi has some exciting news. The brand is bringing back one of its most popular names from the past — the Eclipse — and this time it’s an all-electric vehicle. Here’s what drivers across Minnesota should know about it, straight from your local Walser Mitsubishi Burnsville team.
The Eclipse Name Is Back
Long before it was an EV, the Eclipse was a favorite among drivers back in the 1990s. Now Mitsubishi is bringing the name back as a brand-new electric SUV. It’s called the Eclipse Sportback EV, and it’s set to arrive as a 2027 model. You can read Mitsubishi’s full announcement directly from Mitsubishi Motors North America.
What Kind of Vehicle Is It?
The Eclipse Sportback EV is a compact electric SUV — a good size for city driving around Minneapolis and Saint Paul, but still roomy enough for road trips around Minnesota. It’s built using some of the same technology as the newest Nissan LEAF, but Mitsubishi is giving it its own look, with a unique front and back design, its own style of headlights and taillights, and its own wheel designs.

When Can You Buy One?
Mitsubishi expects the Eclipse Sportback EV to arrive at dealerships in late summer or early fall of 2026. More details about pricing, range, and features are expected to come out closer to that date. Once we know more, we’ll share it with our Burnsville customers first — you can also check Walser Mitsubishi Burnsville’s inventory page anytime for updates.
Mitsubishi Has Been Making EVs for a Long Time
This isn’t Mitsubishi’s first electric vehicle. The company has been working on electric technology since the 1970s, and back in 2011, it brought one of the very first electric cars sold in the U.S. to American drivers. A few years after that, Mitsubishi introduced one of the first plug-in hybrid SUVs, giving drivers another way to save on gas while still having plenty of power.
So whether you’re looking for a fully electric vehicle or a hybrid that gives you a little more flexibility, Mitsubishi has options — and more are on the way.
More New Models Are Coming Too
Along with the Eclipse Sportback EV, Mitsubishi also has a new off-road-style Outlander SUV planned for early 2027. That means even more choices for Twin Cities drivers looking for something new, whether they want an EV, a hybrid, or a traditional gas-powered SUV.
